Benni McCarthy will improve as a tactician under Erik ten Hag at Manchester United.

Benni McCarthy

For the first time since becoming the first team coach at Manchester United, Benni McCarthy has made a statement.

The devoted United supporter joined Erik ten Hag and his backroom staff for the upcoming season, it was revealed on Saturday. McCarthy, who has scored goals for teams like Ajax, Porto, and Blackburn Rovers, will be able to provide the United forwards with specific expertise.

Before United’s exhibition match against Rayo Vallecano, McCarthy talked to MUTV about how great it is to join the Reds. “I am thrilled to be here, and I aim to really make a difference for United this season,” he stated.

The manager of AmaZulu in South Africa’s top division most recently, and before that, Cape Town City, was the all-time leading scorer for Bafana Bafana. His two stays in South Africa both had a lot of promise.

Three years ago, McCarthy and Cape Town City made history by winning the MTN 8. In the 2020–21 season, he guided AmaZulu, South Africa’s oldest professional football team, to its second-highest league finish ever. When McCarthy’s tenure with AmaZulu was at its peak, some advised him to pursue a coaching career in Europe and follow in the footsteps of Pitso Mosimane and Bradley Carnall by working outside of South Africa.

McCarthy’s Usuthu qualified for the CAF Champions League for the first time in their history after coming in second place two seasons ago. McCarthy has the credentials to serve as an international coach thanks to his UEFA professional licence and sterling reputation throughout Europe.

Benni McCarthy Net Worth

The former Bafana player has amassed a sizable fortune over his illustrious career. He is thought to be worth $16 million.

Although the 44-year-old showed promise as a young tactician, he also had a number of shortcomings. For starters, his demeanour in front of the media may occasionally come off as a little too casual and could embarrass his former club owners. While South Africans could find humour in such situations and dismiss them as jokes, they might not be accepted as well abroad, especially in high-profile competitions where every coach’s remark is closely watched.

McCarthy also exhibited a demonstrated inability to turn around teams when players lost their composure, as was seen with AmaZulu last year. The team appeared set to finish outside the top eight last season after he guided AmaZulu to a second-place finish two seasons prior, but a late-season comeback under Brandon Truter spurred a comeback.

McCarthy will be able to hone his tactical abilities and professionalism in a setting that is much more stringent and demanding than what he would have encountered in South Africa by working with the United technical team. Ten Hag, the new head coach of United, is known for being a rigorous mentor and disciplinarian behind the scenes. As a result, throughout the forthcoming season, he will impose fines on United players who exhibit poor behaviour or who arrive late for training.

McCarthy will also encounter his toughest test to yet. He will need to rejuvenate a United frontline that, outside of Cristiano Ronaldo, struggled to score last year. McCarthy may confront a more difficult challenge than he had at AmaZulu and Cape Town City, but doing so will ultimately help him become a more technical mentor and coach. Examples of such players include Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford.

When Tottenham Hotspur F.C. played A.S. Roma in the I-Tech Cup, itsmyne, a social-plus sports NFT marketplace by NFT Labs, was chosen to provide NFTs to more than 30k supporters.

30 July 2022, Singapore /EINPresswire.com/ — The I-Tech Cup match between Tottenham Hotspur F.C. and A.S. Roma will take place on July 30 at Sammy Ofer Stadium in Haifa, Israel. NFT Labs is excited to announce that their product, Itsmyne, has been chosen by HYPE Sports Innovation as a technology solution.

The competition, called the I-Tech Cup, was designed by the event’s organisers, MTR7. Their goal is to highlight technological innovation in Israel, which is known as “the Startup Nation.”

The I-Tech Cup will be a once-in-a-lifetime chance to demonstrate the evolution of live sports both on- and off-field. The rules and restrictions that come with the conventional frameworks of the federation and league games are not applicable to the I-Tech Cup because it is an exhibition game. Fans can now enjoy cutting-edge solutions that they have never seen before thanks to this.

NFT Labs will distribute commemorative NFTs through the Itsmyne web application as a part of their solution. These act as a reminder of the famous game while also functioning as tools for randomised prizes in the form of other NFTs and sporting goods. Commemorative NFTs resemble ticket stubs that a fan could save as a reminder that they watched their team play, with the exception that it is a digital and permanent record. Fans at the I-Tech Cup will be able to claim the NFT of their preferred team in under a minute without the need for a cryptocurrency wallet or prior familiarity with cryptocurrencies!

Kerrigan’s retirement marks the end of an era in Washington football.

Kerrigan's retirement

Ryan Kerrigan continued to refer to the Washington facility by its previous name despite the fact that he was wearing a shirt with the Commanders’ new emblem on it.

There were other echoes of the not too distant past besides that one. Punter Tress Way, who has been with the organisation the longest, was reminded of the times when Kerrigan would flex after making a sack when Washington was still known as the Redskins when he saw his former teammate at the Commanders training camp. The chapter for a franchise striving to reclaim long-lost grandeur is closed with Kerrigan’s retirement in the familiar burgundy and gold colours. Kerrigan was the final star player under the previous name.

At his retirement press conference on Saturday, Kerrigan stated, “It’s a new age of football here in Washington, and I’m hoping it means a lot of wins in the future, some playoff wins — something that I sadly didn’t get to experience here.” “I just hope that signifies good things going forward for the squad and good things for the guys in the locker room,” the player said.

Since the final game Kerrigan and his teammates played under the previous moniker on December 29, 2019, that locker room has undergone major transformation. A result of Ron Rivera’s roster revamp since taking over as coach and head of football operations on January 1, 2020, only 11 of the 91 players at camp had experience playing with the Washington Redskins.

As much as anything else, Kerrigan, who spent the previous two years with what was known as the Washington Football Team and played one season for Rivera, is a link to the past of the company.

Kerrigan's retirement

Chase Roullier on Kerrigan’s retirement

Chase Roullier, a centre who has played in Washington under all three names, said, “Obviously, Ryan spent most of his time here under the old name, but I think us Honoring him as the Commanders just carries on the legacy of that name and our team as a whole and demonstrates that, regardless of the change in name, we are still the same group of guys.” “There have been many cultural and other changes, but we are still able to commemorate Ryan as such a significant contributor to this franchise and what he has done for us.

Although pass-rushers Montez Sweat and Chase Young replaced Kerrigan after he left for one final season with Philadelphia, Kerrigan remains Washington’s all-time leader in sacks. Together, they were a part of the NFL’s second-ranked defence two seasons ago when the team advanced to the playoffs and won the NFC East.

Since then, several important parts have changed, notably the quarterback, Carson Wentz, and Kerrigan’s message to the club was upbeat about its future.

What’s really interesting is that Kerrigan comes out for one day and talks to us about what he sees in the locker room, the facility, and on the field and he uses the word “momentum,” Way said. “Even if he’s one of my closest friends, I would still make the same argument. You can just sense a certain momentum, so it just depends on how well we play, how many games we win, and how long that momentum lasts.

Since being appointed coach before the pandemic and the summer of 2020, when a national reckoning on racism in the U.S. prompted the team to drop the old name amid pressure from sponsors and after decades of criticism from Native American groups, Rivera has been charged with carrying out that mission.

Kerrigan likes the new moniker, for what it’s worth. As one of the last truly great Redskins players, he is also honoured by this reputation. “I know this team means a lot to a lot of people. It’s one of the oldest teams, one of the older franchises in the league, and it had a lot of great players come through,” said Kerrigan. “I truly like it.”

Manchester City Vs. Liverpool Score in Community Shield

Manchester City Vs. Liverpool

In today’s Community Shield match versus Liverpool at the King Power Stadium, Erling Haaland will be the line leader for Manchester City.

The No. 9 for City arrived from Borussia Dortmund this summer and makes his official debut after starting our exhibition game against Bayern Munich in Green Bay last week.

Kyle Walker, who entered the match against Bayern Munich in the second half, starts this one, with Joao Cancelo shifting to left-back. Josh Wilson-Esbrand is substituted in.

The City midfield and offence are the same as they were in the contest at Lambeau Field.

Teams Lineup

Liverpool

XI: Adrian, Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson, Fabinho, Henderson, Thiago, Diaz, Salah, Firmino

SUBS: Davies, Gomez, Konate, Milner, Keita, Jones, Elliott, Nunez, Carvalho

Manchester City

XI: Ederson, Walker, Dias, Ake, Cancelo, Rodrigo, De Bruyne, Bernardo, Mahrez, Grealish, Haaland

SUBS: Ortega Moreno, Phillips, Stones, Gundogan, Alvarez, Foden, Mbete, Palmer, Wilson-Esbrand

Tactics

City today played a 4-3-3 formation with Erling Haaland as the key attacking player.

Ederson starts in goal, as the buildup play for City depends heavily on his distribution.

The team’s captain, Ruben Dias, will team up with Nathan Ake at centre back.

Joao Cancelo begins on the left, and Kyle Walker on the right. The ability of these two of the best attacking full-backs in the world to move forward and support assaults will be crucial for City.

With the drive of Bernardo Silva and the cunning of Kevin De Bruyne playing just ahead of him, Rodrigo will take the field as the holding midfielder. It is a midfield with the ideal combination of qualities.

Jack Grealish, who was so impressive in the US, will play on the right of City’s attack with Riyad Mahrez, while Haaland will play as a central striker. Grealish and Haaland will try to build on their successful linkup play against Bayern Munich in Green Bay.

Haaland gives City a sizable physical presence through the middle, but Pep Guardiola made it clear in his pre-game news conference that he expects his forwards to drop deep and get on the ball.

This season may be quite exciting for City after a turbulent summer.

Manchester City Vs. Liverpool

Manchester City Preseason Overview

Two wins from two games.

Pep Guardiola had a week of intense training to jumpstart season-preparation efforts during City’s highly successful US Tour.

The level of the football we played against Club America was, at moments, extremely impressive, but City really turned up the style in the game against Bayern Munich.

Our attacking game was faster and more intense than anticipated, which implies we may get off to a quick start when the Premier League kicks off the next weekend with our first task being a trip to West Ham on Sunday.

We have a good chance of taking home the Community Shield if we continue playing like we did today.

Positive Indication?

When the Community Shield was last played outside of Wembley, it was in 2012 at Villa Park, where City defeated Chelsea 3-2.

A repetition of today’s performance in Leicester would be the ideal boost before our Premier League debut the following Saturday.

Some Stats

  • The only other Community Shield match between Manchester City and Liverpool ended in a 1-1 draw, with the Citizens winning on penalties in 2019.
  • In eight of the last nine matches between Man City and Liverpool in all competitions, including the last five straight, both teams have scored. Both clubs scored at least twice in each of the three games played between the teams last season (2x 2-2 draws, and a 3-2 win for Liverpool).
  • The Community Shield hasn’t been played outside of Wembley since Manchester City defeated Chelsea 3-2 at Villa Park in 2012. The game will be played in Leicester for the second time; the first time, Liverpool also participated (lost 1-0 to Leicester City at Filbert Street in 1971).
  • Only Manchester United (21) and Arsenal (16) have won the Community Shield more frequently than Liverpool, including instances when the trophy was split (15).
  • Since 1958, when Bolton defeated Wolves 4-1 in October, the Community Shield game has never been contested outside of August. It’s also the earliest in a calendar year that the game has been played since May of 1922, when Huddersfield defeated Liverpool 1-0.
  • With the exception of Manchester City’s 2-0 victory against Chelsea in 2018, the FA Cup holders have won six of the last seven Community Shield matchups between league champions and FA Cup winners.
  • Despite losing 1-0 to Leicester last season, Manchester City has won three of its past five Community Shield contests. If Liverpool triumphs, it will continue a trend from the previous few years in which clubs have lost back-to-back Community Shield matches, with Chelsea doing so in 2017 and 2018 and Liverpool doing the same in 2019 and 2020.
  • In their last six Community Shield contests, Liverpool has lost four of them, including the last two on penalties (v Man City in 2019 and Arsenal in 2020). However, their two victories during this run have come in their previous two visits as FA Cup champions (v Man Utd in 2001 and Chelsea in 2006).
  • Liverpool have lost more matches at the King Power Stadium under Jürgen Klopp than they have at any other stadium overall (excluding Anfield) (5).
